ECO scheme

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme is a government backed initiative designed to help households across Scotland, England and Wales to reduce their energy bills and carbon emissions. Planned to help tackle fuel poverty, ECO 1 was introduced in 2013 and we are now moving into the third phase of ECO funding which is anticipated to run for the next five years.

As part of the scheme, the larger energy suppliers have been obligated to partake in the initiative helping qualifying homeowners or private tenants to replace their old inefficient boilers either completely free of charge or heavily subsidised. The scheme is also open to allow qualifying households to receive free insulation.

As an accredited and trusted installer, Union Technical have been working with the major energy suppliers, and to date have assisted thousands of homes across Scotland, England and Wales.

Landlords

By 2018 all landlords will be obligated to improve the energy efficiency standards of any property that is being let. It is set to become illegal to rent out a property with energy efficiency ratings of F or lower.

Under the government’s ECO scheme, your tenants could qualify for a free boiler if they are in receipt of a combination of benefits and the current boiler in the property is inefficient. An a-rated boiler can be installed to help reduce your tenants’ energy bills, ensuring they stay warm during the winter months and improve your housing stock.
