If you use gas in your home, it is important to ensure that you are aware of any potential gas risks and dangers in order to keep safe. As Union Technical will be supporting this year’s Gas Safety Week – 18th -24th September – we have put together a handy guide to stay gas safe:
Get an annual service
It is important to have all of your gas appliances serviced each year to ensure that they are working how they should be.
Check your engineer is Gas Safe registered
You can do this by visiting GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500 to ensure your engineer is qualified to fix, fit or service any appliance.
Check for warning signs
If you notice a yellow flame instead of a sharp blue one or if there are any stains or black marks on appliances this may be an indication that they are not working properly.
Fit a carbon monoxide alarm
The alarm will alert you if there is any carbon monoxide poisoning in your home.
If you smell gas, call the National Gas Service Emergency Line on 0800 111 999 to report a suspected leak. They will be able to assist you and sort out the problem.
