Introduction

We all like to save money. Here at Union Technical, we can help you do just that by offering you solutions to help you save energy.

Using less energy will save you money on your fuel bills year after year. As well as helping to look after the environment and slow down the rate of climate change.

Benefits of Insulating your Home

Insulating your home has been a long standing and proven way of keeping your fuel bills down and your home warm. It’s just like putting a tea cosy on your tea pot or wearing a hat in the winter. It stops the cold getting in and the heat getting out.

Did you know that some health conditions can be made worse by living in a cold, damp home?

A home that is cold and damp can have serious impacts on young children and older people. It can lead to complications for anybody who has health conditions linked to the lungs, heart and circulatory system.

By having a range of insulation types installed in to your home you can save money, use less energy, help the environment and keep you and your family warm and well.

Loft Insulation

Did you know that on average about 25% of the heat generated in your home can be lost through an un-insulated roof? That is because heat rises and will look for a place to escape; that’s just like burning money and watching it disappear in a puff of smoke into the air.

It is easy to spot a property with an un-insulated loft space, it’s the roof where all the birds sit to catch the warm air that is escaping or the roof that has no snow on it in the winter as the escaping warm air will have melted it!

Stopping heat loss couldn’t be easier and the simple solution is to have your loft insulated. Loft insulation is a thick material that is rolled on to your loft floor and acts like a big warm blanket. It will stop heat escaping through your roof, therefore keeping your home warmer in the winter, meaning you need to use less energy and saving your money on your fuel bills. Look how much money you could be saving on your energy bill by having your loft insulated!

Benefits of Installing Loft Insulation include:

  • Saving money on your fuel bills due to using less energy to keep your home warm.

  • Your home will stay warmer for longer due to the reduction of heat loss.

  • Reduce your homes carbon footprint.

  • Keeps your home warmer in winter and believe it or not, cooler in the summer.

  • Can improve the value of your home.

cavityIf your home was built after the 1920’s it is likely to have cavity walls. A cavity wall comprises of two walls with a gap in between, which is the cavity. The outer wall is normally made of brick and the inner wall is usually made of brick or concrete block.

The cavity can be filled which will stop cold air from entering in to your home and the warm air your generate from your boiler escaping. Having cavity wall insulation is a simple process but needs to be done by a registered Installer. Union Technical are one of those registered installers.

Here at Union Technical we can install your cavity wall insulation using a very simple process which involves:

  1. Drilling small holes in the outside walls at measured intervals.
  2. Insulation is then blown in to the cavity through the holes using special equipment.
  3. Once the insulation is in the wall, we will fill the holes in the brickwork with cement so you’ll barely notice them.
  4. You will be given a 25 year guarantee after the work is completed.

Cavity Wall Extraction

Introduction

We all like to save money. Here at Union Technical, we can help you do just that by offering you solutions to help you save energy.

Using less energy will save you money on your fuel bills year after year. As well as helping to look after the environment and slow down the rate of climate change.

However, if the wrong product has been used or not installed properly then this can cause serious damage to your property. However, don’t worry, we can help to remedy this for you.

Cavity Wall Insulation Extraction

Cavity Wall Insulation is a popular and effective way of making homes warmer and cutting down on heat loss and reducing fuel bills. However, sometimes there are a number of reasons why the positive impacts can be negated and even become a hazard. This could be contributed to:

  • The wrong type of insulation materials used for the property type or location. Coastal properties are not always suitable for all types of insulation due to the damp and wet air and wind driven rain.
  • Incorrectly fitted insulation, such as pockets or voids left unfilled.
  • Rubble or debris left in the cavity when it was filled.
  • Poor property maintenance such as external walls falling in to a bad state of repair or lack of maintenance to guttering etc.

Once certain types of cavity wall insulation becomes wet, it is just about impossible to dry and this results in cold bridging. Cold bridging can lead to high fuel bills, a cold and damp home and mould growth.

Did you know that some health conditions can be made worse by living in a cold, damp home?

A home that is cold and damp can have serious impacts on young children and older people. It can lead to complications for anybody who has health conditions linked to the lungs, heart and circulatory system.

How we extract wet Cavity Wall Insulation

The process we use is OSCAR approved. It entails re-drilling the original holes used to fill the cavity and removing a number of bricks above the damp course level. Compressed air is then blown into the cavity via the re-drilled holes and the material is extracted out through where the bricks have been removed.

Examinations of inside the cavity are carried out pre, during and post extractions to ensure the walls are suitable for extraction, to be able to monitor the extraction process throughout the removal and to ensure when the removal is complete that all materials have been completely removed.

Once your home has dried out and any maintenance has been carried out, you can then enjoy the many benefits and positives of having your insulation renewed. Under Floor Insulation

Introduction

We all like to save money. Here at Union Technical, we can help you do just that by offering you solutions to help you save energy.

Using less energy will save you money on your fuel bills year after year. As well as helping to look after the environment and slow down the rate of climate change.

By having a range of insulation types installed in to your home you can save money, use less energy, help the environment and keep you and your family warm and well.

Under Floor Insulation

Underfloor insulation is a great way to keep your property warm. An uninsulated floor can lose roughly 15% of the heat from your home.

Installing Underfloor Insulation is very similar to loft insulation, just in reverse. Loft roll is placed between the joists and a breathable membrane is stapled to the joists, this keeps the insulation tight to the floorboards to prevent any sagging. This will prevent cold drafts coming up through the floorboards from underneath your home but also stop heat escaping through the floor too.

Older homes are most likely to have suspended timber floors which will enable the installation of Underfloor Insulation to be carried out. However the depth below the floor needs to be considered. If you have air bricks or ventilation bricks on the outside walls of your home that are below floor level, you most likely have a suspended timber floor.
